You Reap What You Throw
Genre: First-Person Action-Adventure
Engine: Unreal 3 (UDK)
Development Time: 4 months
Team: Clinton Ma, Balraj Basi, Nicholas Cattley, Matt McMahon, Zach Williams and Dan Sochan (mentor)
My Role: Project Manager, Coder, Level Scripter, UI Designer
You are Subject 17, a man who has been stripped of his life, his memories and his identity. Waking up inside a mysterious cryogenics chamber located in a sinister underground laboratory, our hero must escape the evil caretakers of this facility. Subject 17 has been experimented on in terrible ways, gaining the power of telekinesis and Dark Energy, both of which allow him to smash through his environment and the foes standing in his way to freedom.
As the Project Manager, I lead the product vision during pre-production and maintained our development schedule using the Agile methodology. I also contributed to mechanics prototyping and coding of player elements including:
- Enemy weapons
- The Dark Energy player power
- Player jump and movement controls
- Player health regeneration with visual effects
My key contributions to Level Scripting include:
- The "Chandelier" Challenge Room
- Gun Turrets
- Dark Energy Force Fields
- The Conveyor Belt/Central Processing Room.
I designed and implemented all Flash-Scaleform assets, including the HUD damage effects, tutorial tooltips, Subject 17 dialog captions and the introductory and end cinematic sequences.
Curious about our design process? Read more about Kinesis in my post-mortem series (Coming Soon)
